Health Promotion and WorkLife Services

Ensuring a strategic approach to health promotion and work/life integration that supports achievement of the vision and goals of the University is a primary focus of Health Promotion and WorkLife Services (HPaWS).

By providing a client focused, staff benefit we assist individuals and work groups to achieve personal and professional excellence within a meaningful, creative and effective work and learning environment. 

Programs and are aligned to support departments in providing a psychologically healthy and safe workplace.  Specifically, we offer and facilitate access to programs, services and resources to enhance individual and organizational health. Services are designed to assist either individual staff members and work teams achieve their full potential by promoting well-being, health and life balance.  Consultation services are also provided to individuals in a leadership role.

Ultimately, by utilizing an innovative and holistic approach, staff members, their departments and ultimately the University all benefit.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities

  • “Stay at Work” plans, early illness support and coaching for individuals and supervisors/managers
  • Disability Case Management and Claim Administration; LTD Plan Administration
  • Facilitation of medical accommodations; administration of RAF and the “Loan Cupboard”
  • Workers’ Compensation claims management and account administration
  • Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP) Administration
  • Critical Incident Stress Management and Crisis Intervention
  • Development and coordination of health promotion and wellness programs and services.
  • Development and coordination of work life programs and services
  • Institutional Recognition Program administration
  • Administration of and communication re: the Virtual Wellness Office (Facing Facts, Active Living for U, On the Move, Suicide Awareness, Assist U, et al)
  • Health education and awareness initiatives (workshops, Lunch & Learn series, resource library)
  • Health Promotion Advisory Committee leadership and support
  • Policy development/strategic planning/program implementation
  • Institutional statistical reporting – indicators of “health”; assistance to Faculties/departments in identifying their own indicators
  • Benefit Committee consultation and support
  • Coordination of the pre-retirement workshop series for Support Staff; and “Retiring with a Focus and a Plan” for Academic staff
